About Christina

Bio

Christina Zouras is an abstract artist based in Austin, Texas. Through layered mixed media compositions, she creates emotional landscapes that explore longing, distance, connection, and the spaces between where we are and where we wish to be. Her work invites viewers to travel through it as they would a physical environment, lingering within moments of tension, structure, dissolution, and possibility.

At its core, her work is cartographic. Not maps of existing places, but maps of trans-liminal emotional terrain: the romantic geography between two people separated by oceans, between the physical body and its limitations, between pain and relief, between the psychological self and possibility… Essentially, distance is beyond the geographical, and connections exist on a plane that transcends the physical, making connection possible even when the divide feels insurmountable. This thread of yearning runs throughout her practice and even in her life.

Zouras received her Bachelor of Design from The University of Illinois Chicago. Her background in Swiss design principles informs the underlying architecture of her work. Grids emerge and dissolve. Order collides with spontaneous gesture. Structure and expression are not opposites, but collaborators.

Living with chronic migraines has further shaped her artistic perspective, offering an intimate understanding of the body's fragility, resilience, and search for equilibrium. This oscillation between overwhelm and stillness appears throughout her work in saturated fields of color, moments of restraint, and compositions that balance intensity with calm.

Her work does not seek to resolve the distances it maps. What it offers instead is the presentation of the longing itself. The alchemy of motifs in opposition toward one another works together, that transmute pain into beauty. The longing, the structure, the overwhelm, the stillness, and the stubborn, luminous faith that reaches toward something brighter… all of this is both enough and a call to continue.
